Tyler and Abby didn't pick these spots because they looked good on a mood board. They picked them because Konza Prairie is literally where their story started, and getting to stand in that place with them, knowing what it meant, made this session something I'll carry with me for a long time.

Pillsbury Crossing in Manhattan, Kansas is one of those spots that just has a mood to it. The water, the natural surroundings, the way the light filters in depending on the time of day. It's relaxed and organic and it photographs beautifully. It's the kind of place where couples naturally soften and stop thinking about the camera, which is exactly what I want.
And then there's Konza Prairie. The scale of it is something you genuinely have to experience. Wide open skies, rolling tallgrass, and a view from the top of the trail that earns every step of the hike. The light out there, especially in the late afternoon, does something really special. It wraps around everything warmly and makes every photo feel expansive and golden. For a Konza Prairie photo session specifically, that sense of open space and breathing room is truly unmatched.

These two are just genuinely them together. No performance, no stiffness, just two people who are really happy to be around each other. They love nature and simple things and spending time together, which made these locations feel less like a backdrop and more like an extension of who they are as a couple.
You could tell within the first few minutes that they just got each other. Playful and warm and completely at ease. That kind of energy makes my job feel less like work and more like a privilege.
the first date detail
As it turned out, the top of the Konza Prairie trail was where Tyler and Abby had their very first date, so getting to photograph them there during their engagement session was something really special. They got to stand in the same spot where it all began and take in just how far they've come since then. I love when a location carries that kind of meaning for a couple, and when it does, you can feel it in the photos. There was something so full about that moment, and I was so glad to be there for it.
the session
One of my favorite things about engagement sessions is that they give couples a chance to just be together and enjoy each other, and Tyler and Abby did exactly that. They reminisced, they laughed, they were completely in their own world at times, and I just got to follow along and document it.
There were so many moments where they forgot the camera was there entirely, and those are always the ones I love most. The quiet in-between moments. The ones that are just theirs.
the dip at sunset
At the end of the session, as the light was going golden over Konza Prairie, I asked them to dip and kiss. I barely got the words out. They just went for it, and between the smiles and the giggles there was this beautiful kiss, and I remember standing there feeling so genuinely grateful to get to be a witness to their love. That moment was so them. So easy and joyful and full. I feel so blessed that this is my job.
